The wait has ended. Finally folks living in Shin (New) Jeju can enjoy rotating sushi without having to take a trip down to the City Hall area of Gu (Old) Jeju. Walking along the Jaewon area recently, I spotted a sign which had been posted for a new restaurant named Sushi Iyagi (Talk).

This new establishment looks clean and has a variety of fish to offer its clientele. If you are a fan of sushi, particularly served at a rotating bar, I recommend coming here. The restaurant also offers customers an option to take out freshly made sushi.

There is plenty of space for the busy times of the day. Chairs at the rotating bar are plentiful and there are about three or four booths to sit larger parties. The bright interior is decorated with Japanese memorabilia. A large yukata is hung on the wall, festive Japanese signs are everywhere and stuffed sushi toys stare at you with a cute smile.

The price per plate is 1,500 won. Plates for 1,300 won are available however they are less enticing (unless you like pineapples and/or California rolls drizzled in mayo/teriyaki sauce). If you don’t see your favorite sushi, you can place an order with one of the chefs busily making sushi in the centre of the bar.

My recommendations:

  • Salmon
  • Mackerel (silver skinned fish with red and beige meat).
  • Raw octopus (served in a similar style to the raw fish eggs — wrapped in seaweed).
  • White fish (generously served with a dab of wasabi on top).

When you take your seat, a large jug of water is given to you. A bowl of hot miso soup also magically appears on your side. You may ask for more if you wish. On one side of the restaurant is a self-serve “drinks” area. Korean teas, instant coffee mixes, yuza teas, etc. can be found here… help yourself! Draft beer is 3,000 won. Mini udon (Japanese noodles) cost 2,500 won.

Opening hours: Weekdays: 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. Weekends: 11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Please see map below for directions to the sushi bar. Only a minute or two’s walk from Jeju nightclubs the Raj Mahal and the Led Zeppelin bar, Sushi Iyagi is situated in an ideal location.
