In a statement earlier this week, an official from the Jeju Special Self-Governing Province announced the program for the 8th Jeju Forum for Peace and Prosperity. The Forum, co-sponsored by Jeju Province, the International Peace Foundation, East Asia Foundation and Joongang Ilbo (and supervised by the Jeju Peace Institute), will be held between May 29 and 31 at the Haevichi Hotel and Resort, in Pyoseon-myeon. Attendees will discuss issues with the overarching theme of “New Waves in Asia.”

The number of sessions has been reduced from 60 to 50 and split into topics such as peace, economics, environment, culture and women’s issues.

At the main session, attendees will discuss international peace initiatives, international prosperity and mutual cooperation. At the special session hosted by author and financial commentator Jim Rogers, issues such as successful investment and Asia’s global strategy will be considered. Another special session by Freda Miriklis, president of the International Federation of Business and Professional Women, will offer an opportunity to discuss ways of improving the status of women on Jeju. — Jeju Gov’t News
