Photo_event calendar on 0415_gosari festivalBoiled gosari (bracken) is a traditional Korean food which is an important source of protein and calcium. Gosari grown on Jeju is particularly sought after because of its high quality and good taste.

The festival to celebrate gosari will be held in Namwon-eup (district) in Seogwipo this year, an area which is synonymous with both gosari and mandarins. It will offer a number of programs set in each village of the district.

A shuttle bus for the village tour will run every 25 to 30 minutes from the main festival site, Namwon Yongam Haesu Pool, in both an eastward and westward direction with a travel time of around one hour and 20 minutes.

Programs for each village (Note: ‘ri’ means village)

1. Namwon 1-ri, the main festival site (Namwon Yongam Seawater Pool)

  • Fishing off rocks on the seashore (fee: 3,000 won, covers fishing rod and bait).
  • Bike riding (fee: 5,000 won per hour).

2. Taeheung 1-ri

  • Fishing off rocks on the seashore (fee: 3,000 won, covers fishing rod and bait).
  • Collecting sea shells (fee: 3,000 won).

3. Taeheung 2-ri

  • Viewing Okdom, a kind of tilefish, auction.
  • Fishing off rocks on the seashore (fee: 3,000 won, covers fishing rod and bait).
  • Collecting sea shells (fee: 3,000 won).

4. Shinheung 2-ri

  • Making camellia soap (fee: 10,000 won).
  • Making birds’ nests (fee: 20,000 won).
  • Making wooden furniture (fee: 100,000 won, reserve your place two days ahead of this event.)

5. Uigwi-ri

  • Horse riding (fee: 10,000 won).
  • Archery (fee: 5,000 won).

6. Sumang-ri

  • Picking gosari.
  • Dullegil walk, the trekking road around the Halla mountain.

7. Hannam-ri

  • Gosari picking.
  • Forest road trek.

8. Shinrye 1-ri

  • Picking gosari.
  • Climbing up to Iseungak oreum (‘oreum’ refers to parasitic volcano on Jeju).

9. Hueree eco park (Hueree Natural Living Park)

  • Trekking
  • Making Jeju mandarin juice (fee: 3,000 won).
  • Mini concert in a mandarin farm (3,000 won).
  • Picking green tea leaves (10,000 won).

  • Fishing on a boat (fee: 20,000 won per hour, covers food served on the boat).
  • Snorkling (fee: 10,000 won, advance reservation is required).

13. Wimi 2-ri

  • Kayak (fee for two people: 10,000 won per 30 minutes, 15,000 won per 60 minutes, advance reservation is required, may be cancelled in case of bad weather).

14. Namwon Keuneong (a scenic spot on a coast).
