Dutch jazz pianist Rob van Bavel is one of the busiest musicians in Europe. After graduating from Rotterdam Conservatory at the head of his class in 1987, he has performed around the world. He is famous for working with world-famous musicians like Chet Baker, Woody Shaw, Randy Brecker, Slide Hampton, Mark Murphy and Rita Reys. Now he has teaching positions at both the Amsterdam and Rotterdam Conservatories.

Rob van Bavel established a drumless jazz trio “The Ghost, the King and I” in 2007 with bass player Frans van Geest and guitarist Vincent Koning. Considered as the best jazz trio in the Netherlands, the group attracted rave reviews when they played at the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam in 2012. At Cafe Seba on May 3 and 4, the group will perform not only its own songs which are usually influenced by Oscar Peterson’s style, but also new arrangements of the classical music of Johann Sebastian Bach, Maurice Ravel, and Claude Debussy.
