According to artist Shin Jisook, El Cant Del Ocells (The Song of the Birds) was “a traditional Catalan song which the Spanish Cello Master Pablo Casals enjoyed playing. The resistance movement often sang this song to show their opposition against the Franco dictatorship.” She quotes Casals’ 1995 speech to the United Nations: “Birds sing when they are in the sky, they sing: ‘Peace, Peace, Peace,’ ” and dedicates this solo exhibition to “peace and freedom.”

“I believe the expression of nature’s own aesthetics provides the strongest resistance against everything that is not natural,” she says. “In these works, I tried to express the scenery of the countryside in more natural and simple aesthetics.”

An Hye-kyoung, director of Art Space C, says the exhibition will be raising funds for the hosting of the 4.3 Art Exhibition, which will run from Dec. 6  until March 23, 2014.
